Key Highlights of the MINI Cooper Convertible

The MINI Cooper debuted in our country around twenty years ago, and it remains just as appealing and fun to drive today as it was then. One of its popular variants is the MINI Cooper Convertible. Drivers have something to cherish every time they step behind the wheel of this car, thanks to its lovely interiors and dynamic chassis setup.

About MINI
British automaker MINI was formed in 1969 and was later taken over by German car manufacturer BMW. MINI is the brand name of a variety of tiny automobiles that BMW assembles across several countries. The company is gaining popularity for its small SUVs, hatchbacks, and convertibles.

MINI Convertible – Features
Here are some of the car’s key highlights to run through before buying it:

Engine and performance
The 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine delivers 134 horsepower, which is more than enough power for the base variant of this little, lightweight, front-drive car. Higher trims get a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, offering 228 horsepower. The base engine takes 8.2 seconds to reach 60 mph, which is well behind the top trim’s 6.3 seconds.

You get either an automatic or manual transmission depending on the variant. The manual’s short throws, accurate engagement, and forgiving clutch make it a pleasure to shift. The smooth and quick gear changes of the automatic are impressive.

Interiors
The MINI Cooper Convertible’s interior is wonderfully unconventional, but utility is sacrificed to a certain extent. While there is minimal room for rear passengers, front-seat occupants will not have any complaints. You can enjoy unlimited headroom by opening the Convertible’s roof. The electronically-powered soft top folds in just 18 seconds. The car comes standard with heated front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. A leather interior is optional.

Technology
The MINI Cooper Convertible’s technology is heavily influenced by its parent firm BMW. This is advantageous because the infotainment system is essentially the one you see in a BMW but with a vibrant MINI-themed user interface. Its 8.8-inch display is simple to use and has a somewhat more upscale appearance than its competitors. Navigation and voice controls function well and prove beneficial in some scenarios. Wireless Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity is standard, but the lack of Android Auto is notable, given that most rivals provide it.

The MINI’s safety technologies are worth investing in. The adaptive cruise control performs well and keeps the traffic gaps narrow. In addition, the pedestrian and front collision warning systems come in handy on crowded streets. Although the back seat has child seat anchors, only the smallest booster seats are likely to fit without much difficulty.

Storage
The MINI Cooper Convertible’s lack of practicality is a downside. Its 7.6-cubic-foot trunk is compact and hard to open. When the back seats are folded down, there is space for around 12 carry-ons. Its cabin storage is marginally better, and the cupholders and the glove compartment both have ample room for one person’s modest items. Most of the center armrest storage will be lost if you opt for wireless charging.

Trim levels
Like most cars on the market, the MINI Cooper Convertible comes in various trims. The options include the 134-horsepower Cooper, 189-horsepower Cooper S, and 228-horsepower John Cooper Works (or JCW for short). These have a starting price of $33,800, $37,400, and $42,650, respectively. Engine performance is among the most critical factors separating these variants, so you must choose wisely. You may personalize any variant by choosing from several optional paint and upholstery colors, external graphics, and wheel designs. Just pay attention to the pricing, as the cost can quickly reach those of luxury-car after add-ons.

The MINI Cooper Convertible dazzles with its agile handling and quick engine performance. It is worth considering if you are looking for a tiny, sporty car.
