Neck pain is very common and can be caused due to bad posture or bad sleeping position or a fall. As long as the pain is not accompanied by other symptoms, it is fine. Any pain that lasts longer than a week is a point of concern because it suggests that there is some serious problem that needs immediate medical attention.

Usually, when we have some pain, the first thing we do is to take some over-the-counter pain relievers like Tylenol, Advil or anti-inflammatory pills. These pills give temporary pain relief only for few hours. Neck pain can cause huge inconvenience in carrying out your day to day activities. So if you want to get neck pain relief without taking pills, we have some natural home remedies for you.

  • Use herbs
    Ginger and turmeric are known to have anti-inflammatory characteristics. Adding them to your food will help you to get relief from pain to some extent. You can also try herbs like arnica, boswellin, white willow, devil’s claw and licorice to control pain. Bromelain, an enzyme naturally found in pineapple, is also said to reduce pain and inflammation in the body.
  • Massage with lavender oil
    Lavender has been used in medicines since ancient ages. It is known for its medicinal values. It is also popularly used in aromatherapy. A massage with lavender oil can give neck pain relief.
  • Keep yourself hydrated
    The discs in the vertebrae need water to maintain the alignments in the spine and to take the pressure off the spine. If you drink enough water and keep yourself hydrated, you will avoid damage to your discs and will also find that your neck pain is decreasing.
  • Stretch regularly
    Sometimes, stretching is all you need to release the tension in the muscles surrounding your neck. Doing simple yoga postures can make space in your head for oxygen and ease the pain in your neck. Getting enough oxygen will reduce pain and help the body to detoxify.
  • Get a massage
    Massage the muscles in your neck to release the tension and to break the fascia in the neck. Massaging the cranial will help you to ease the pain because it is the place where your head and neck are intertwined. Massaging will prevent your muscles from pulling and straining.
  • Take an Epsom salt bath
    A warm bath with Epsom salt will instantly relieve your pain by removing the stress and tension from your neck. The salt works as a relaxant and reduces the pain and swelling in the body. Add two cups of Epsom salt to the tub and soak your body for 20 minutes.

When you follow these tips at home regularly for few days, you start seeing the result. Your pain starts to ease and you start feeling better.
