What is Giving Tuesday?
As mentioned, Giving Tuesday follows Thanksgiving. In 2022, this day falls on November 29th. The movement was established as a charitable event to give back to the community. A campaign for Giving Tuesday was first launched back in 2012. Since then, it has become a more significant event that encourages people to give and celebrate generosity.

The whole point of Giving Tuesday is to devote time and resources to charitable causes and encourage others to return to the community that has given and help them grow. Apart from money, you can donate some time to local community centers. The official website of the organization refers to the movement as “radical generosity.” In 2021, its reach went to as many as 80 countries. Reports suggest that Giving Tuesday has obtained donations of close to $2.5 billion in the United States alone.

History of Giving Tuesday
The Giving Tuesday initiative was conceptualized by the 92nd Street Y community center in 2012 in partnership with United Nations Foundations. It was first announced in September of that year, just two months before the first time the public holiday was celebrated. Mashable first announced the movement on its website. The goal behind this whole holiday was to bring together people on a mission to do good for society. With the passing years, the movement started gaining more traction. With the growth of the movement, donations grew considerably over the years. It also meant the movement had grown global and had numerous countries participating in the initiative. In 2017, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation announced a $2 million donation for fundraisers bringing the total to a whopping $45 million.

All you have to do is gather your supporters online and line them up with the cause. If you work for or run a non-profit, you can align your message with Giving Tuesdays. You could just as easily find hashtags that combine the movement and some specific non-profits. Checking in with local or group non-profits is also a feasible option.
