Choosing The Best Facial Cleanser

Facial cleansing is a vital routine for your skin-care regimen. It promotes healthy glow once you find the right facial cleanser for your skin. Our skin pores are clogged with a mixture of sebum and other pollutants. Such clogging builds up bacteria that leads to whiteheads, blackheads, cysts, blemishes, and acne.

Choosing The Best Facial Cleanser
You need to carefully choose the right facial cleansers if you have oily skin that sweats a lot.

Here are some tips that will help you to choose the right facial cleanser.

Choose a facial cleanser based on your skin type
The primary role of a facial cleanser should be to remove dirt, sweat, and oil without drying out your skin completely. Your safest bet should be going for descriptors like “fragrance-free” and “gentle.” Now, it depends on you if you want to go with creams or gels as facial cleansers.

  • For dry skin
Dry skin lacks lipids (fats), water or both. In this case, dry skin might find it hard to hydrate on its own. Winter exacerbates dryness, making the skin feel tight and look flaky, and dryness might lead to eczema. In this case, apply oil-based facial cleansers and a heavier face cream that will keep your face moisturized throughout the day. You can also opt for milk-based facial cleansers to keep the natural oils under your skin intact and prevent them from further drying.
  • For oily skin

This type of skin produces more sebum and is more prone to breakouts. Oily skin locks in the moisture and prevents it from getting dry naturally. It is not always necessary that oily skin might lead to acne. Acne is influenced by a number of factors like external pollution and hormones. Thus, if you have a oily skin, choose foam-based facial cleansers. It not only clears your pores but also has salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide that help prevent breakouts.

  • For a combination of oily and dry skin

There are people who have who have oily skin near the nose, chin, and forehead. Whereas, check neck and area around eyes are dry or not as oily as other areas. In such a case, look for facial cleansers that are gentle on your skin and do not remove sebum from it.

  • For sensitive skin
People with sensitive skin will have reactions varying from the severity to a range of cosmetics, soaps, lotions, including facial cleansers. In most of the cases, people with true skin sensitivity tend to have skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, and rosacea. These skin conditions tend to make the skin layer thinner, making them sensitive to ingredients of the facial cleansers. For most, facial cleansers with moisturizers are game-changers.
  • For people with normal skin
This refers to the skin that is not especially dry or oily. It means the skin does not get greasy and very dry. People with normal skin type can develop any type of facial cleanser. While you are at it, make sure that you choose the one that preserves sebum and keeps your skin moisturized.

Salt and algae
Salt or sodium chloride is often found in shampoo, bubble wash, and facial cleansers. These products are combined specific surfactants such as foaming agents. Salts are added to reach a level of viscosity, which forms the thickness of the product. Diatomaceous earth, or simply dead algae, is used in facial cleansers for its exfoliants.

While you are choosing the best facial cleansers, it is also important to know proper techniques to clean your skin to get the maximum benefits.

Use lukewarm water
As it is with facial ingredients, water temperature plays an important role while cleaning your face. Hot water dilates blood vessels which can irritate and dry out your skin, whereas cold water is less effective in losing dirt. Hence it is necessary to wash your face with lukewarm water so that, it prevents your skin from getting dry and keeps removes the dirt at the same time.

Massage your skin in circular motions
Apply facial cleansers on your fingertips and massage in small circular motions. Pay special attention to those areas where the skin is oilier, and in the places where your skin sweats more than compared to other areas.

Pat your face dry
Be gentle while wiping off the water from your face as it is necessary to keep it moisturized. Pat dry it with a dry clean cloth

Avoid over exfoliation as scrubbing your face too often will scrape away dead skin, leaving your skin dry.
Check with your dermatologist if you are not sure which facial cleaner is best for your skin type.
