5 Hair Masks for Frizzy Hair

There is a number of reasons why your hair can become frizzy. While the most common reason is the lack of moisture, other causes can often include, humidity, harsh chemicals, or overuse of hair dryers, rollers, flat irons, and other products. And then there’s pollution, dust and dirt end up making your hair dry and frizzy.

5 Hair Masks for Frizzy Hair
Frizzy hair can be managed at home, without any use of expensive branded products.

Here are five home remedies for taming frizzy hair:

Banana hair mask
Bananas are rich in iron, calcium, and potassium and work great on frizzy hair. Bananas help to hydrate and nourish dry hair while improving its gloss and elasticity. Mash a ripe banana with a few tablespoons of whole milk and leave it on your hair for 20 to 30 minutes, before rinsing it off with a mild shampoo. Do this once every week. You can also add cocoa powder if you prefer natural brownish highlights.

Apple cider vinegar wash
Wash your hair with mild shampoo and rinse it out completely. Pour a cup of apple cider vinegar over your hair (you may dilute it with some water, and don’t forget to cover your eyes), and let it sit for about 30 to 40 seconds. Rinse your hair thoroughly with cool water, and apply some conditioner.

Avocado-olive oil mask
The combination of avocado and olive oil works as a natural conditioner for frizzy hair as both offer amazing hydration to your tresses. Mash an avocado and mix it with olive oil. Whip the pulp in a blender and use it after a shampoo. Apply the mask twice a week and leave it for about 30 minutes after shampooing your hair. Then wash it off and apply a conditioner. The fatty acids in the avocado and nourishing properties of olive oil make this an effective frizzy hair treatment.

Honey and yogurt mask
The lactic acid and proteins in yogurt help to nourish damaged, dry hair, while also enriching your scalp. Raw honey acts as a moisture-booster, locking it within your hair follicles, while almond oil helps new hair growth naturally. Mix ¼ cup of yogurt with 2 tbsp of almond oil and 1 tbsp of almond oil, apply it on your scalp and hair and leave it on for 30 minutes. Wash it off and rinse your hair with a mild shampoo; try this frizzy hair treatment for managing your damaged hair.

Coconut oil
Coconut oil is a great anti-frizz treatment; it helps to lock-in moisture within your hair strands and keeps it soft and luscious. Massage a few drops of coconut oil on wet, freshly shampooed hair thoroughly, and let it dry naturally for a smooth, glossy finish. Remember not to apply too much though, or it might make your hair look too oily.

In addition to these, don’t forget that a proper diet and rest go a long way in managing frizzy hair naturally. Use scarves or head-covers, if you’re traveling in a dry or polluted area. During monsoons, use a mild keratin shampoo and follow it up with some smoothing serum, once your hair has dried up naturally.
